India experienced its eighth warmest year in 2025 since 1901, with temperatures 0.28°C above the long-term average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This follows 2024, the warmest year on record. IMD noted a significant increase in cyclonic systems and extreme weather events, which caused 2,760 deaths. Scientists attribute the warming trend and milder winters to climate change, with 10 of the 15 warmest years occurring in the last 15 years.
