Two Intermediate-Depth Earthquakes of Magnitudes 4.4 and 4.5 Strike Myanmar

Myanmar experienced two earthquakes recently: a magnitude 4.4 quake on March 14 at a depth of 90 km and a magnitude 4.5 quake on March 15 at 107 km depth, both classified as intermediate-depth events. The region lies at the intersection of four tectonic plates and is crossed by the Sagaing Fault, which poses significant seismic risks to major population centers including Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago, and Yangon. Historical events, such as a 7.0 magnitude quake in 1903, highlight the area's vulnerability to seismic hazards.
