A mild earthquake measuring 2.8 on the Richter scale struck North Delhi and the National Capital Region on Monday morning at 8:44 am, with a shallow depth of 5 kilometres, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremors caused brief panic but no injuries or structural damage were reported. Experts note Delhi's geological setting near active fault lines and soft soil in some areas increases seismic risk. Earlier, a stronger 5.7 magnitude quake occurred in Ladakh at a greater depth.
