ISRO scientists have identified the cause of the August 5, 2025, flash flood in Dharali village, Uttarkashi, as the sudden collapse of an exposed ice patch on a steep slope above the village. This event triggered a rapid surge of water, mud, and debris, damaging homes and infrastructure. Investigations ruled out cloudbursts and glacial lake outburst floods, noting light to moderate rainfall prior to the disaster. The findings highlight a lesser-known hazard linked to Himalayan ice melt.
