
Kashmir Valley is experiencing severe cold during 'Chilla-i-Kalan,' a 40-day period of extreme winter from December 21 to January 30. Sub-zero temperatures have caused parts of Dal Lake and other water bodies to freeze. Srinagar recorded lows around minus 5.2°C, with Shopian reaching minus 7.5°C. Temperatures slightly rose on January 14 but remained below freezing. The India Meteorological Department forecasts a western disturbance affecting the region from January 16, potentially bringing snowfall.
