A major railway accident was averted on February 28 in Bettiah, West Champaran district, Bihar, after a track fracture was detected near Kumar Bagh railway station. The Bagaha-Patliputra Intercity Express was stopped as a precaution, with no casualties reported. The affected track section had undergone doubling work recently and was inspected by the Commissioner of Railway Safety on February 18. The incident raised concerns about construction quality and monitoring. Emergency repairs were conducted, and train operations resumed after about two hours.
