
Chennai welcomed the New Year with widespread rainfall, particularly in its northern areas, due to an active trough and cyclonic circulation. Perambur recorded the highest rainfall at 102 mm, followed by Ennore with 92.8 mm. While northern and central parts experienced moderate to heavy showers, southern and central pockets received lighter precipitation. The rainfall intensity showed a clear north-to-south gradient across the city.
