A study by the Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences reveals that a sudden cooling event around 8,200 years ago, known as the '8.2 ka cooling event,' caused a 3°C temperature drop in Greenland and disrupted Atlantic ocean circulation. This event weakened the Indian summer monsoon, reducing rainfall in central India’s Core Monsoon Zone. Researchers analyzed fossil pollen from sediment cores in Chhattisgarh to reconstruct past climate changes, linking global climate shifts to regional monsoon variability during the Holocene.
