
A 79-year-old man, Sharif Ahmad, presumed dead by his family for 28 years, returned to his hometown in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, to collect documents for West Bengal's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Ahmad had gone missing in 1997 after remarrying and moving to West Bengal. His unexpected return after decades led to an emotional reunion, though he learned of several family members' deaths. He has since returned to West Bengal to complete the SIR process.
