Lohri, celebrated annually on January 13, has several origin theories. Some link it to Sant Kabir's wife, Loi, or the Punjabi word for a baking plate, 'loh'. Another legend suggests Lohri was Holika's sister who survived a fire. Traditions involve eating sesame seeds and jaggery, making cow-dung effigies, and lighting a large bonfire at sunset. People throw offerings into the fire, sing, dance, and take embers home, with some villages maintaining fires day and night.
