
Ahead of Holi 2026, Delhi cardiologist Dr Alok Chopra warns that bhang, a cannabis-based festive ingredient containing THC, is not harmless. Its slow-acting effects can lead to overconsumption, causing rapid heart rate, anxiety, paranoia, impaired judgment, and dehydration. High-risk groups—including those with psychiatric conditions, heart disease, pregnant women, and individuals under 25—are advised to avoid bhang. Experts also note that understanding bhang's potency and delayed onset is crucial to prevent adverse reactions during celebrations.
