The Kolkata-based label 145 East, founded by Shoma and Rishabh Badoni, has introduced a fashion collection in Chennai that reimagines Bengal's traditional gamcha textile into contemporary summer-ready garments like dresses, palazzo pants, and saris. The collection features various color palettes beyond the classic red-and-white check, maintaining the fabric's authenticity while modernizing its silhouettes. Originating from a personal mission to support struggling gamcha weavers, the brand evolved from a 2015 fundraiser to a full-fledged fashion label focused on preserving this textile heritage.
