Hair Loss Drug Minoxidil Linked to Infant Health Risks and Eye Disorders in Global Analysis

A global analysis by researchers from India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and AIIMS suggests that minoxidil, a common hair loss drug, may pose risks to infants. The study identified over 45 cases of excessive hair growth in infants up to 23 months old due to minoxidil exposure, often unintentional. Additionally, more than 1,600 global cases of eye disorders, including eyelid swelling and blurred vision, were linked to minoxidil use in the general population. Researchers noted that despite recommendations against use by pregnant or breastfeeding women, cases of infantile hypertrichosis were linked to maternal exposure.
