New research suggests daily microplastic exposure may accelerate atherosclerosis, a condition causing artery narrowing and increasing heart attack and stroke risks. The study, primarily observing male mice, indicated that biological sex might influence microplastic's cardiovascular impact, as female mice did not exhibit the same artery damage. Microplastics, tiny plastic particles from everyday items like packaging and clothing, are increasingly found in the human body, raising concerns about long-term health effects.
