A 32-year-old man experienced severe arrhythmia, a rapid and irregular heartbeat, on New Year's Day following a night of heavy drinking. This condition, known as 'holiday heart syndrome,' occurs when excessive alcohol consumption disrupts the heart's normal rhythm, potentially leading to atrial fibrillation. While the patient's condition stabilized with medication, the syndrome highlights the risks of binge drinking, even in young individuals, as alcohol can act as a cell toxin affecting heart function and potentially causing blood clots or heart failure.
