Laughasté Yoga: Faking Laughter for Health Benefits and Stress Relief

A practice called Laughasté, a yoga routine descended from 1990s Indian laughter clubs, encourages participants to fake laughter until it becomes genuine. Developed by comedian Melanin Bee, the method aims to relieve stress and offers health benefits, including improved heart and immune function. The study of laughter, gelotology, gained traction in the 1960s, with early research by Stanford psychologist William F Fry showing increased immune cells from laughter. Dr. Madan Kataria founded the first daily laughter club in Mumbai in 1995.
