The Central government has increased the authorized strength of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre in Uttar Pradesh from 652 to 683. This decision, notified on December 31, 2025, aims to ease administrative pressure and facilitate promotions for Provincial Civil Service (PCS) officers to IAS rank. The amendment, made in consultation with the Uttar Pradesh government, revises the cadre strength regulations and came into effect immediately upon gazette publication.
