Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to sue JPMorgan Chase, alleging the bank wrongly "debanked" him following the January 6, 2021 Capitol protest. Trump also denied reports that he offered JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon the roles of Federal Reserve chair or Treasury Secretary, which Dimon and the bank confirmed were untrue. JPMorgan stated it does not close accounts based on political or religious beliefs and supports efforts to address political debanking. Dimon has publicly opposed some Trump administration policies and affirmed the Fed's independence.
