The Bombay High Court has stayed the conviction and sentence of Vinod Ghogalem, who was booked under MCOCA for an alleged Rs 50 lakh extortion case. This stay allows Ghogalem to contest elections for the Municipal Corporation. The court noted he had spent over seven years in jail. The state opposed the plea, citing a subsequent attempt-to-murder FIR, but the court granted the stay, acknowledging the decade-long delay in hearing his appeal.
