Following a Supreme Court order addressing a trust deficit between West Bengal's government and the Election Commission, over 200 judicial officers have been deployed to verify approximately 45-50 lakh disputed voter claims under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Training on a new ECI portal has been completed despite initial technical issues, and all judicial officers' leaves have been cancelled until March 9 to expedite the process. Given the volume of cases, the Supreme Court permitted the Calcutta High Court to requisition additional civil judges from Odisha and Jharkhand, with expenses covered by the Election Commission. The final electoral rolls are scheduled for publication on February 28, with supplementary lists to follow as verification continues. The Court invoked Article 142 to ensure no eligible voter is excluded due to procedural timelines.
