Punjab and Haryana High Court Directs Use of 'District Courts' Terminology, Bans 'Lower' and 'Subordinate' Labels

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed that courts below the High Court in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh be referred to as "district courts," "district judiciary," or "trial courts," banning terms like "subordinate" and "lower courts" in official correspondence and judicial proceedings. This follows Supreme Court rulings emphasizing the independent role of district courts and discouraging terminology that undermines their status. Similar directives have been issued by other high courts, including Karnataka.
