Railway Cooperative Societies Urged to Align Bylaws with 2023 Amendment Act

The Cooperative Election Authority (CEA) has urged railway employee cooperative societies to update their bylaws in accordance with the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Act, 2023, to enhance democratic governance. Representatives from 16 multi-state societies discussed establishing representative general bodies and submitting election proposals six months before board tenures end. The CEA, established after the 2023 amendments, has conducted 220 elections and is overseeing 70 ongoing nationwide. These societies serve up to one million members and manage around Rs 10,000 crore in deposits and loans, with four holding banking licenses.
