Protests erupted in Jammu against the admission of Muslim students to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence. Led by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangarsh Samiti, a coalition of right-wing Hindu organizations, demonstrators demanded the cancellation of the admission list and reservation of seats for Hindu students, citing donations from Hindu pilgrims. Protesters burned an effigy of Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha, who chairs the shrine board, and caused traffic disruptions. While admissions were based on the NEET merit list, organizers claim the college's funding basis necessitates Hindu-only intake.
