West Bengal Government Employees Protest for Outstanding Dearness Allowance Payment

On February 26, West Bengal government employees, led by Sangrami Joutha Mancha and other groups, protested at Esplanade in Kolkata demanding payment of outstanding dearness allowance (DA) as directed by the Supreme Court. The court ordered the state to pay 25% of DA arrears from 2008 to 2019 by March 6. The protest blocked a key crossing, causing traffic disruptions, and police prevented the rally from proceeding toward Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's residence.
