In the Panvel civic polls, BJP's Nitin Patil secured an unopposed victory in one ward after the sole contender from the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA)-backed Peasants and Workers Party had his nomination rejected. This win gives the BJP an early symbolic lead in the 78-seat body. Despite this, a high number of nominations indicate intense competition across most wards, with the MVA planning to focus its campaign on civic issues.
