Kerala Signboard Installation Sparks Tension on Disputed Nilgiris Border

Tensions rose along the Tamil Nadu-Kerala border at Thaloor in the Nilgiris district after Kerala officials installed a 'Welcome to Kerala' signboard on disputed land. Local residents and political groups objected, claiming the board encroached on Tamil Nadu territory. Nilgiris District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Taneeru communicated with Kerala authorities, requesting removal of the signboard pending a joint survey by both states. Police presence was increased as discussions continue over the unresolved border dispute dating back to 2017.
