The Punjab and Haryana High Court has modified a punishment for a head constable whose service dog, Laika, went missing for a month. The court ruled that permanently stopping the constable's increments was disproportionate to the offense of not immediately reporting the dog's disappearance. The punishment was reduced from permanent forfeiture of two increments to temporary forfeiture, acknowledging a minor lapse but deeming the original penalty excessive.
