The Election Commission (EC) has cancelled the contract of the agency supplying web cameras for the 2021 West Bengal assembly and 2024 Lok Sabha elections after finding major irregularities, including missing or incomplete footage from about 60% of cameras, especially at sensitive booths with reported violence. Following these findings during the Kaliganj by-election checks, three new vendors from outside the state were selected through fresh tenders. The EC plans to install cameras inside and outside polling booths, with increased coverage in sensitive areas, to ensure polling integrity and enable evidence submission in court if needed.
