BJP Fields Suvendu Adhikari Against Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal Assembly Elections

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has released its first candidate list for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, nominating Suvendu Adhikari from Bhabanipur, the seat currently held by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Adhikari, who defeated Banerjee in Nandigram in 2021, may contest from both Bhabanipur and Nandigram, though he prefers Nandigram. The elections will be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, with vote counting on May 4. This move signals a direct challenge to the Trinamool Congress leadership.
