
A report by the Association for Democratic Reforms and West Bengal Election Watch reveals that 47% of the 291 analyzed West Bengal MLAs face criminal cases, with 37% linked to serious charges including murder and crimes against women. Party-wise, 41% of Trinamool Congress and 66% of BJP MLAs have declared criminal cases. Over half (52%) are crorepatis, with total assets of Rs 821.5 crore. Educationally, 63% are graduates or higher, and women constitute 15% of the assembly. The state will hold elections in April 2026.
