The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning a safer and more efficient alternative to the Tamhini Ghat on the Pune-Konkan route, which faces challenges like landslides, sharp bends, and congestion, especially during monsoons. Proposals include constructing a new tunnel or a fresh road alignment via Panshet-Mangaon-Dighi Port to bypass the existing ghat. The Centre has granted national highway status to the Pune-Dighi Port stretch, highlighting its strategic importance for trade, tourism, and regional development.
