The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has directed the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) to suspend reporting Television Rating Points (TRPs) for news TV channels for four weeks or until further notice. This decision follows concerns over 'unwarranted sensationalism and speculative content' in coverage of the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict, which may cause public panic, especially among those with relatives in affected areas. The suspension aims to curb sensationalism and is based on Clause 24.2 of the 2014 Policy Guidelines for Television Rating Agencies in India.
