Following deadly violence in Assam's West Karbi Anglong district over alleged encroachment on grazing lands, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced measures to de-escalate tensions. The government will approach the Gauhati High Court for an early decision on evictions, fence vacant Village Grazing Reserve (VGR) and Professional Grazing Reserve (PGR) lands, and cancel trade licenses on these lands. All government offices will be relocated from VGR/PGR areas. The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) will file an affidavit by January 5, with Karbi organizations also to be heard.
