Maharashtra Government Engages Mumbai Hospitals to Expand Ayushman Bharat Coverage

In Maharashtra's legislative assembly, members raised concerns that despite extensive publicity, Ayushman Bharat and Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya schemes have limited reach in Mumbai due to few empanelled hospitals and low reimbursement rates. Minister Meghna Bordikar stated that since July 2024, the schemes cover up to ₹10 lakh for nearly 2.5 crore families, with diseases covered increasing and hospitals empanelled doubling to over 4,000. Meetings with Mumbai hospitals aim to expand participation, addressing cost concerns. The government reported ₹3,419 crore disbursed for nearly 6.95 lakh patients and denied payment delays, while noting some hospitals were de-empanelled for non-compliance. Private hospitals cannot be mandated to join, but efforts continue to include more multi-speciality and charitable hospitals.
