Protest March in Manipur Demands Justice for 2023 Ethnic Violence Victims

On March 6, 2026, the Central Village Defence Force (CVDF) led a protest march in Churachandpur, Manipur, demanding justice for victims of the ethnic violence that began on May 3, 2023. The violence, triggered by tensions over Scheduled Tribe status demands, has resulted in over 260 deaths, including BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte, injuries to more than 1,500 people, and displacement of over 60,000 residents, many still in relief camps. The march involved hundreds of participants and called for closure of shops to facilitate the procession.
