
Punjab's agricultural debt has surpassed 1 lakh crore, with 85,460 crore owed to commercial banks, impacting 23.28 lakh accounts. This institutional debt, excluding an estimated 20,000 crore in non-institutional loans, averages 9.88 lakh per landholding. Experts note a fivefold increase in debt per landholding over two decades, highlighting a need for studies and solutions to curb this rising trend.
