Two Indian sailors, Captain Ashish Kumar from Bihar and crew member Dalip Singh from Rajasthan, died after the Palau-flagged oil tanker Skylight was struck by an Iranian missile near Oman's Musandam Peninsula in the Strait of Hormuz on March 1, 2026. The tanker, carrying 15 Indian and 5 Iranian crew members, was attacked amid escalating US-Iran-Israel tensions. Their remains were recovered after a fire broke out. Separately, a Mumbai seafarer died in a missile strike on another tanker in the region. The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical but volatile maritime corridor with disrupted shipping traffic.
