A civil society organization, Thannatchi, has criticized the Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) law, which replaces the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Thannatchi labeled the replacement an "autocratic act" that removes workers' democratic and constitutional rights. The organization demands the retention of MGNREGA, withdrawal of the new law, and legal steps by the state government to implement MGNREGA in Tamil Nadu, alongside calls for protests.
