Former Brazilian Federal Police Chief Silvinei Vasques, convicted in connection with an attempted coup linked to ex-President Jair Bolsonaro, has been arrested in Paraguay. Vasques was detained at Asuncion's international airport for identity theft while attempting to flee Brazil, reportedly after removing his electronic ankle monitor. He was previously accused of obstructing voters in 2022 elections and recently sentenced to over 24 years under house arrest. Paraguayan authorities handed him over to Brazilian federal police.
