Chennai MRTS Extension to St. Thomas Mount Begins with New Timetable on March 14

The Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) is set to extend its service from Velachery to Parangimalai (St. Thomas Mount) starting March 14, 2026. This extension, covering about five kilometers, faced delays since its 2008 launch but was completed structurally in November 2025. Southern Railway announced a new timetable with 43 pairs of trains extended to St. Thomas Mount and additional shuttle services between Chennai Beach, Velachery, and St. Thomas Mount to enhance connectivity in South Chennai.
