Assam CM Rules Out Pabitra Margherita Contesting Jorhat Assembly Seat in 2026

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita will not contest the upcoming Assam Assembly elections from the Jorhat constituency. The Bharatiya Janata Party plans to field a local candidate instead, highlighting Margherita's continued role in the Union government. Sarma also noted no final decision has been made regarding the Sivasagar seat, which is sought by the Asom Gana Parishad. Margherita may be considered for the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.
