India has approved the 260-megawatt Dulhasti Stage-II hydropower project on the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir, a move that follows the nation's decision to put the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan on hold. This project, along with others, aims to utilize India's hydropower potential from western rivers allocated under the treaty. While India asserts these are run-of-the-river projects permissible under the treaty, Pakistan has raised concerns about declining water flows, accusing India of a 'water war'.
