A U.S. appeals court has ruled California's ban on openly carrying firearms in most populated areas unconstitutional, violating the Second Amendment. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, in a 2-1 decision, cited the Supreme Court's 2022 Bruen ruling, stating the ban conflicts with the nation's historical tradition of firearm regulation. The ruling partially reverses a lower court's decision and notes that over 30 states permit open carry, with California itself having allowed it until 2012.
