The Department of Pension and Pensioners' Welfare has clarified gratuity rules under the National Pension System for re-employed government employees. The clarification addresses confusion for individuals who received gratuity from prior military service before joining civil government posts. According to the Office Memorandum dated December 26, 2025, citing Rule 4A of the Central Civil Services (Payment of Gratuity under NPS) Amendment Rules, 2025, employees who have already received gratuity for earlier service, including superannuation, retiring, compulsory retirement, or compassionate gratuity, will not be eligible for a second gratuity.
