Supreme Court Dismisses West Bengal's Plea Against NIA Probe in Murshidabad Violence

The Supreme Court dismissed the West Bengal government's plea against a Calcutta High Court order that refused to stay the National Investigation Agency's (NIA) probe into January violence in Murshidabad district. The NIA, directed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, invoked section 15(1)(a) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act related to terrorist acts. The Supreme Court noted the high court's balanced view and advised the state to raise grievances before the high court, which may also examine the state's challenge to the NIA probe.
