Mamata Banerjee Lays Foundation for Mahakal Temple with Tallest Shiva Idol in Siliguri

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee laid the foundation stone for the Mahakal Mahatirtha temple in Siliguri's Matigara area, announcing plans for the world's tallest Mahakal idol, featuring a 108-feet bronze statue within a 216-feet-high structure. The temple complex will span 17.41 acres, accommodate up to 100,000 visitors daily, and include cultural facilities. Banerjee emphasized developing Siliguri into a global tourism and spiritual hub, complementing other state temple projects, and announced an international convention center to boost regional business and employment.
