Maharashtra's Samruddhi Highway, connecting Mumbai and Nagpur, recorded 233 fatalities over two years, with 126 deaths in 2024 and 107 in the first nine months of 2025. To enhance safety, an advanced Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) will become partially operational next month, featuring video incident detection, speed monitoring, vehicle actuated speed displays, and variable message signs. The government is also constructing 15 Highway Police Centres, deploying security personnel and vehicles, and conducting mandatory vehicle and driver checks to reduce accidents.
