Punjab to Establish Seven New Medical Colleges Including Government and Private Institutions

Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh announced plans to establish seven new medical colleges, including two government-run, two public-private partnership, and three private or minority institutions. Construction for the Shaheed Udham Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences in Hoshiarpur will start on March 20, 2024, with completion expected by March 2028. The project cost was reduced from Rs 550 crore to Rs 274.75 crore. Other colleges will be developed in Kapurthala, Sangrur, SBS Nagar, Lehragaga, Malerkotla, and near Ludhiana, aiming to expand medical education capacity in the state.
