Nallakannu, a 101-year-old veteran Communist Party of India leader and freedom fighter from Tamil Nadu, passed away on February 25, 2026, at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai due to age-related ailments and multi-organ failure. Known for his lifelong commitment to workers' rights, social justice, and grassroots activism, he served three terms as CPI Tamil Nadu state secretary. Leaders across political lines, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, paid tribute. His funeral will be conducted with full state honours, and his body will be donated to a medical college as per his wishes.
