The Supreme Court dismissed Justice Yashwant Varma's petition challenging the Lok Sabha Speaker's formation of a three-member inquiry committee under the Judges (Inquiry) Act, 1968, to probe allegations of misconduct involving burnt currency notes found at his residence. The Court ruled that rejection of a removal motion in one parliamentary House does not bar the other from proceeding independently. It also criticized the Rajya Sabha Secretary General for overstepping administrative roles in the motion's rejection, emphasizing that admission decisions rest with the Speaker or Chairman. The impeachment process against Justice Varma will continue.
